Bass singer Christof Fischesser grew up in a musical family, received already in young years musical training and was member of several choirs and ensembles. He studied voice with Prof. Martin Gründler at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main and won first prize at the German national contest for singing in Berlin. Following he was engaged as permanent member of the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and given the possibility of singing leading parts in his vocal category such as Mephisto (Mefistofele / Boito) or Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro). In 2004 he sang at the State Opera in Berlin and from 2012 until 2015 he was permanent member of the ensemble of the Opera House Zurich and since is closely connected by cooperation. Christof Fischesser guest performed, amongst others, at the Vienna State Opera, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Opéra Bastille Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid, State Opera Munich, Komische Oper Berlin, Semper Opera Dresden, Opéra de Lyon, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera Chicago as well as at the opera houses of Antwerp, Copenhagen and Gothenburg. Fischesser has established himself worldwide with a wide range of bass parts and performs in the parts of König Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Landgraf (Tannhäuser), König Heinrich (Lohengrin), Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Sarastro (Magic Flute), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Sir Giorgio (Puritani), Escamillo (Carmen), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Rocco (Fidelio), Banquo (Macbeth), Conte di Walter (Luisa Miller), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Kaspar (Freischütz) and Mephisto (Faust / Gounod) .
With his colourful and flexible bass voice Christof Fischesser is also a much sought after soloist on international concert stages and regularly performs at leading festivals such as Salzburg Festival or Festival d’Aix-en- Provence. He guest performed, amongst others, with the Vienna Symphonic under the baton of Fabio Luisi at the Tonhalle Zurich and the Vienna Concert House, with Daniel Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia and under Claudia Abbado at the Lucerne Festival. His wide spectrum of concert repertoire includes key works such as Beethoven’s Missa solemnis , Verdi’s Messa da requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elias and also Brahm‘s Vier ernste Gesänge and repeatedly connected him with renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, Philippe Jordan and Kirill Petrenko. Numerous CD and DVD publications document Christof Fischesser’s artistic works, e. g. Beethoven’s Fidelio under the baton of Claudio Abbado (with Nina Stemme and Jonas Kaufmann), Massenet’s Manon under Daniel Barenboim (with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon) or Wagner’s Lohengrin under Kent Nagano (with Anja Harteros and Jonas Kaufmann). The season of 2015/2016 begins for Christof Fischesser with his role debut as Baron Ochs (Rosenkavalier) at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, followed by performances as Daland (The Flying Dutchman) at the Opera House Zurich as well as Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and King Henry (Lohengrin) at the Bavarian State Opera. In the concert field he will be performing in Händel`s Messias with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi and in Chicago with Bruckner`s Te Deum under Riccardo Muti. In autumn of 2016 he will perform in the world premiere of Detlef Glanert`s Requiem together with the Concertgebouw Orkest under Markus Stenz.
